Cop spitter spared jail

-

A MAN who passed out drunk in a taxi before spitting on two police officers on Hedges Ave has narrowly missed spending time in jail.

Jake Stuart Perrin, 27, pleaded guilty to two counts of serious assault of police and one count each of obstructing police and wilful damage.

The court heard Perrin fell asleep in a taxi after a threeday gambling and drinking bender on October 26 last year.

The driver called police to Hedges Ave and when police arrived he lashed out at them, spitting towards them. The spittle landed on both the officers’ hands. He also kicked the perspex window of the car, causing it to shatter.

Defence lawyer Victoria Ward, of Brooke Winter Solicitors, said Perrin was visiting from Sydney and extremely intoxicated at the time.

Magistrate Gary Finger gave him a head sentence of four months jail with immediate parole release. Perrin was also ordered to pay $500 compensation to each officer.
