Tekno to start minus backer
JACK Le Brocq is set to roll out of Supercars pit lane today in a largely plain black Holden Commodore as his Tekno Autosports team continue to battle for major sponsorship.
It’s no secret that Tekno faced financial difficulties last season.
The Yatala-based single-car team signed a five-event deal for 2017 with Woodstock but donned the bourbon company’s colours all season as they struggled to find an alternative sponsor.
When the 26 Supercars rev into action for the year-opening practice session in Adelaide, most will be sporting their latest and greatest paint jobs.
Not Tekno. Unless a lastminute agreement falls over the line, the No.19 Holden will be bare but for some minor sponsorship branding by the likes of long-time Le Brocq backers GoGetta.
Lucky for Tekno – now led by experienced team boss Adrian Burgess – their new driver Le Brocq has become prepared for any situation thrown his way.
The 25-year-old, who replaced Will Davison in the offseason, has changed teams every year since graduating from the Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2012.
He has jumped from an Erebus Motorsport Mercedes in the 2013 GT Championship to an Image Racing Super2 Ford to an MW Motorsport Ford to a Prodrive Ford to a MWM Nissan and now to a Tekno Holden.
He claimed top three championship
finishes in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 Super2 series and believes the wideranging apprenticeship has built up his resilience and adaptability.
“It’s funny, it has just been the way it has worked. It hasn’t been anything that we meant to do,” Le Brocq said.
“It’s been a good experience and I have learnt a lot from it.
“The driving style is a little bit different between each car and each team has a different philosophy.”
