NO.8: BENJI MARSHALL

TIGER, Serena, Lionel. All the champs are known by one name, and so Benji gets spot No.8 on our list of Gold Coast’s best NRL players of 2018.

Sure, that famous Marshall spring might have turned into more of a gentle jump these days, but one unrelenting truth remains. When Benji has the pill, you watch.

The fact the 33-year-old has returned to the Wests Tigers adds to the theatre. Yep, we’ll all be watching.

Throw in his enduring ability to produce that magic moment – one per match which is now two per season – and Benji retains a “must-watch” factor.

The 2005 Tigers may have owned sparkle yet they have been maligned in recent campaigns for missing the pizzazz which lifts a side from 13th. Benji can do that. While he is no longer that genius who dances around defenders, he was a steady older hand for the Broncos last year.
