IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT FOR RIGHT PAIR OF WAGS
THERE was no pawse for these two pooches who were married on the Gold Coast after a whirlwind romance.
Yesterday the pair were married in a large ceremony at the Paws and Pizzazz Expo in Sanctuary Cove, surrounded by dozens of other loved-up puppycouples.
Despite meeting just a few short months ago, it was love at first sight for Holly the great dane, 2, and Oliver the standard poodle, 6 months.
Helen Andrews of Your Dog Trainer, said Holly’s single days were over when Oliver first “pranced” into her home with owner and fellow dog trainer Tracey Gillard.
“They stepped out of the friend zone when I gave them a Chunkers (dog treat),” she said.
“He ate his, and she had hers ... and when he came over, she just opened her mouth and let him have it.”
She said they were always on the lookout for each other, and Holly would cry for him to come to work.
“They sleep together, they run together, they do everything together,” she said. “They even bark at people together. She’s punching above her weight ... but they love each other.
“Anyone who says otherwise is just jealous.”
For other doggie couples, it was about taking things slow.
Cindy the chihuahua, 10 and Bruce the miniature poodle, 9, had known each other for seven years before they married.
Dressed in a frilly veil, owner Gillian Carlisle said Bruce just loved to visit Cindy and share treats with her.
Bruce’s owner, Sandra Judge, said they also loved going on romantic walks with each other.
Around 70 puppy-couples were registered to marry at 11am, with an extra 108 needed to set a new world record.
