Gulls, Bears captain nod

-

TWEED Heads have unveiled a new Intrust Super Cup skipper for their 2018 campaign.

The Seagulls have promoted recruit Cheyne Whitelaw into the captaincy, with incumbent Sam Meskell joining the club’s reigning player of the year Lamar Liolevave as vicecaptains.

Meskell and Liolevave however will co-captain the side in the early rounds while Whitelaw recovers from a wrist injury suffered while playing in Gold Coast’s NRL trial against Brisbane a fortnight ago.

Forward Whitelaw moved to the Seagulls from the North Sydney Bears in the off-season.

Burleigh, meanwhile, named Luke Page as skipper.

Page has been an inspirational figure at Pizzey Park, regularly contending for the ISC-wide player of the year.

The 27-year-old co-captained the team last year alongside Jamie Dowling, who is understood to have been eager to step back from the duties.

Hooker Pat Politoni and halfback Jamal Fogarty were also strong contenders.

Burleigh play on Saturday at Sunshine Coast Stadium, while Tweed take on Norths on Sunday at Bishop Park.
