BEEF UP THE COMS
YES, there is an entire website dedicated to helping residents and businesses do as its URL suggests: GetSetForTheGames.
But despite an avalanche of information on traffic planning, options, routes, contacts and much more at www.getsetforthegames.com, plenty of residents — as revealed in the Bulletin today — are stunned to just now find out their park ‘n’ ride facility won’t be available during the Commonwealth Games fortnight.
Parkwood and Sleeman Centre park ‘n’ rides will be worst affected — they are only going to be available for Games ticketholders who have pre-booked a spot.
That was news to some residents this week and as Opposition Games spokesman John-Paul Langbroek points out they could well be fans of the event now put off due to being inconvenienced.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is promising an information blitz from next week with flyers, social media and even staff stationed at existing park ‘n’ rides to personally let users know they will be affected during the Games.
It might be a case of too little, too late for some who thought they had their Games travel plans under control and will have to go back to the drawing board.
