Turf club terror was on the turps

THE person under investigation for threatening to blow up the Gold Coast Turf Club has apologised, blaming it on the grog.

However, the Bulletin can reveal the person has previously vowed to kill greyhound trainers and Muslims.

The club is unimpressed, calling the apology “flimsy”.

THE person under investigation for threatening to kill Gold Coast Turf Club members has apologised, blaming it on the grog and claiming they could not remember sending it.

It is also not the first time the person has threatened to kill. The Bulletin can reveal the hoax bomber has previously vowed to shoot greyhound trainers and their families “in the face” and posted a rant about Muslims, tagging it with “kill em all”.

Police have been probing the person’s February 16 Facebook threat to bomb, shoot and kill turf club members and the board if they went ahead with the controversial filling in of Black Swan Lake.

The threat was sent to the club’s page and now a new message from the same Facebook user attempts to apologise. The message explains the wilderness resort worker from NSW had been upset to hear of plans to fill in the lake and had no intention to carry out the threats.

“It was a rant bought about by consumption of a few drinks! I mean the club no ill will,” the new message says.

“I realise it may have caused realistic distress on your part and apologise for being threatening.

“I have been contacted by Queensland Police and understand the seriousness of my words, which were only ever words with absolutely no intent to harm people I don’t even know.

“I hope this allays any fears or concerns the club or any of its members may have had.”

The bizarre message ends with: “My apologies ... I had actually forgotten I sent the message.”

But turf club chairman Brett Cook said the messaged apology did not cut it and he would

have expected at least a phone call.

“It’s pretty flimsy. As far as we are concerned, given the viciousness of the first email, we don’t find the apology acceptable at all,’’ he said.

“We’ll be weighing up our options for action from here.”

A police statement yesterday said officers were continuing to “progress this investigation”.

The Bulletin can reveal the Facebook account where the original threat came from contains similar threats posted on its public wall to kill Muslims, greyhound fans and those who slaughter animals for meat.

An October 2016 post calls on all greyhound racers, trainers and owners to stop whining about their hobby. “I will look up each and every winging (sic) greyhound racing trainer come to house and shoot you and your family in the face. Shut up animal users.”

Another public post at the same time says the person is disgusted by a documentary about the killing of chickens and cows for human consumption. “... I will come to your house and kill you like a chicken.”

The turf club has a green light from the Gold Coast City Council to fill in the lake for more horse training facilities, green space and car parking.

Protest groups against the decision this week distanced themselves from the sender of the threats, with one group saying they could not condone “the lunatic fringe”.
