Activists relishing chance to disrupt Games spectacle
RE Keith Woods’ column on the issue of “considering terror ahead of the Games” (GCB, 28/2).
I am a 69-year-old male of Aboriginal heritage and very familiar with the activities of this new breed of stirrers cum activists cum self-appointed social justice warriors.
I have alerted all Gold Coast councillors by individual emails, including mayor Tom Tate, to the issue of the Games being seriously disrupted by these Aboriginal activists and supporters.
Essentially, they (Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance) are disgruntled and disaffected young people caught up in the hysteria of the inflammatory and emotional rhetoric of the many highprofile and established Aboriginal so-called activists/leaders.
Many are seeking to add some sort of construct or meaning to their mostly boring and unproductive lives. And identifying as an “activist” or “protester” is appealing to them. It is very “fashionable”. And they are out of control.
Most people, including the Gold Coast City Council, are burying their heads in the sand and claiming it is a security issue.
They (WAR) predict and welcome this attitude. Clashing with the police and other security is exactly what these people want.
And they are well prepared with their phone cameras to record everything for themselves, to show their mates and even their kids in the future.
These people (WAR) will do their very best to shut down the Games. They have no weaponry, but they will invite violence and resistance, to the max.
They will be everywhere including running on to the tracks and disrupting any and everything they can. To WAR, the Games offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to make some sort of statement, no matter how meaningless. And they intend to take full advantage.
And are prepared to make their statement.
They are all virtually frothing at the mouth in anticipation of what they are intending to do and the golden opportunity that has presented itself. They are also well aware that there will be very little meaningful opposition from the Australian public.
