Plumaro a real gem

TRAINER Kevin Kemp says his in-form filly Plumaro has to be considered one of the favourites leading into Gold Coast’s inaugural $250,000 QTIS 2YO Jewel.

Kemp is targeting the $152,500 on offer to the winner and believes Plumaro is the one to beat in the 1200m sprint on March 17 at Aquis Park.

The two-year-old has turned heads since winning by more than nine lengths on debut at her home track in Toowoomba on January 28.

Plumaro finished a tight second at Doomben in her next run before proving her class by winning in Brisbane on the weekend, showing no fault on a wet track.

“She is pretty special,” Kemp said. “She isn’t doing anything wrong at the moment and is a really nice filly.

“The wet seems to be no problem but the race is a week-and-a-half away yet. She can handle the wet.”

Plumaro has sat at the back in all three of her runs before charging home late.

Kemp said he always planned for the QTIS 2YO Jewel to be Plumaro’s fourth run this campaign and declared winning the feature race at a meeting would be high on his list of wins.

“It would be unbelievable,” Kemp said.

Other events on the showpiece meeting on March 17 include the $125,000 QTIS 3YO Jewel (1200m), the Listed $100,000 Goldmarket Stakes (1200m) and the $100,000 Gold Coast Stakes (1800m).
