- JACKIE EPSTEIN AND NICHOLAS MCELROY

TV and radio personality Kate Langbroek has spoken about a terrifying attack at her Melbourne home last Friday.

The sister of Surfers Paradise MP John-Paul Langbroek came to the aid of her babysister who was followed to Ms Langbroek’s house by a man about 10pm. “He was yelling and screaming, shaping up and with fists up and I tried to shut the gate,” Ms Langbroek said.

John-Paul Langbroek said the man had been picked up at least twice by police in the past month and the incident showed governments needed to get tougher on crime.

RADIO star Kate Langbroek has spoken out about a terrifying attack at her Melbourne home on Friday night.

The attack, in the bayside suburb of St Kilda, left Ms Langbroek bruised and terrified and prompted her brother, Surfers Paradise MP JohnPaul Langbroek, to call for a tougher approach to crime.

Ms Langbroek’s babysitter, Annabelle, was walking to her car about 10pm when a man tried to get into the passenger seat.

Annabelle ran back to Ms Langbroek’s home but the man followed her and tried to kick the door down. Ms Langbroek’s young children were inside at the time.

“We had just tucked the boys in and we hear the door and it was her, shaking like a leaf,’’ Ms Langbroek said.

“He was yelling and screaming at us, shaping up with fists up and I tried to shut the gate because I realised I had left the door open and Peter (my husband) said quick, go inside.

“I got back in and thought, ‘oh my God I’m going to have to go out and cradle my dying husband’.”

The FOX FM broadcaster said the police response was incredible but regretted that violence, abuse, open drug use and prostitution had become rife in her area.

The radio star said residents near Governmentsanctioned “hell holes” had been let down.

“It has to stop and they’ve got to start sending these people to jail.

“People have to rise up and say what you are doing is not working. It’s an election year and the people we’ve elected to sort this out have not.”

Ms Langbroek, who is in Queensland for work, called on Housing Minister and Albert Park state Labor MP Martin Foley to act.

Her older brother Mr Langbroek said police had told his sister the man in question had been arrested twice in the past month.

“Police said they had arrested that guy four weeks ago and the other policeman said he arrested him two weeks ago,” he said.

“(Kate’s) been absolutely rabid on the radio. Can you imagine how her family feels?”

Mr Langbroek claimed the Queensland and Victorian governments were soft on crime.

“We’ve got Labor governments in both jurisdictions who deny there are problems but there are issues with particular groups of people,” Mr Langbroek said.

“In Kate’s case it was someone of African descent. I don’t know if she’s mentioned that, but there’s been an absolute denial from the (Victorian) Government that there’s a problem with African gangs."
