WINNERS
War Baby (Race 7)
There was late support for War Baby ($8 into $5.50) and the money prove to be on the mark. Gina Mitchell gave the veteran mare an outstanding ride and she showed the turn of foot of a much younger horse. She clearly still has a zest for racing.
Future Event (Race 8)
Was $7 into $4.20 and helped punters finish strongly at the end of an up and down day. He pulled himself to the lead at the top of the straight and he quickly put a gap on his rivals. He now has three wins from five starts at the Gold Coast and he should end up in stronger races than this.
LOSERS
Bring Euro (Race 1)
He had to do a fair amount of work early but this was still a disappointing effort from the odds-on favourite. The Sebring gelding had nothing in the tank when pressed by Glen Colless and he has now missed the placings in all his six starts.
Signoria (Race 6)
An unusual effort from Signoria. She led from start to finish in impressive fashion the previous weekend and the soft track was expected to be an advantage, but she didn’t go a yard and was never able to get into the race.
NEXT TIME
Latino Lover (Race 1)
Hasn’t shown a great deal during his racing career to date but there was plenty to like about this effort. He got a long way back and was caught wide throughout before he savaged the line in impressive closing sectionals.
Manila Miss (Race 2)
She was only just run down by Catalina Miss in the shadows of the post and she was in the inferior ground. They put a gap on the rest of the field and a maiden race win for the Sidereus filly is just around the corner.
Nothing for the press( Race 5) Sidetrip was several lengths in front of him in the run and that proved to be the difference between the two horses. He is a horse that has form around a number of quality gallopers and he could even get out to 1600m this campaign.
