Lynch cleared to line up in Round 1

-

SUNS captain Tom Lynch will be free to play in Gold Coast’s AFL season opener after avoiding suspension for a high bump on Brisbane’s Mitch Robinson.

Lynch has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Robinson during the third quarter or Gold Coast’s JLT Community Series game against the Lions at Fanhauser Reserve on Sunday.

The 25-year-old caught left Robinson dazed after collecting the him in the head with his hip as the Brisbane player went to collect a ground ball.

The AFL match review panel classed it as careless conduct with low impact to the head, an offence that will enable Lynch to avoid suspension should he accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

Meanwhile, Suns teammate Sean Lemmens could be out for up to four weeks due to the hamstring injury he sustained in Gold Coast’s first JLT Community Series game against Geelong on March 4.

Lemmens will miss the opening stages of the season but club officials are buoyed by the fact the tear occurred on the outside part of the leg, a section that heals faster than the middle and inside areas.
