HOT CROSS BUN GIN NOW A THING

- EMILY SELLECK emily.selleck@news.com.au

EVER wanted to wash down your hot cross bun with a glass of gin?

Now you can, because Old Tom Restaurant and Bar is giving the best of both worlds: gin, infused with a favourite Easter treat.

Tim Glasson, manager of the popular Broadbeach haunt, revealed how the one-of-a-kind hot cross bun flavoured tipple was made.

“We take hot cross buns from the bakery and add sugar and spices to an Old Tom-style gin,” he said.

“We use the sous vide cooking technique where the ingredients are sealed in a vacuum bag and heated at 55 degrees in a water bath for three hours.

“It infuses the gin with the hot cross bun flavours and the extra sugar and spices.” Gold Coasters could either order the gin by itself or in the Easter cocktail, Mister Cross.

“It’s a martini-style cocktail with citrus and raisin tincture,” Mr Glasson said. “The hot cross buninfused gin will be a nostalgic experience. Familiar, but unlike anything they’ve tasted before.”
