WORKERS TO STRIKE BUT NO GAMES THREAT

-

COUNCIL workers will strike from today but unions will be prevented from taking industrial action through to the Commonwealth Games.

The Bulletin understands up to 60 council staff in City Water, who undertake work like fixing cracked water pipes, will be on strike for up to three days. Union organisers have told the Bulletin there will be no safety risk for residents with staffers available for emergency callouts.

In an update on talks on the Industrial Commission about the enterprise bargaining agreement, council CEO Dale Dickson told councillors yesterday any threat to the Games had been mitigated. But council workers are planning a major rally tomorrow about 11.30am at the Broadwater Parklands.
