NZ boxers to be a hit
NEW Zealand boxer David Nyika is expected to have plenty of support when he tries to defend his Commonwealth Games men’s 91kg title on the Gold Coast.
The region’s huge Kiwi population is expected to get behind a strong New Zealand boxing team when events begin at Oxenford Studios.
Nyika, 22, hopes to become the first New Zealand boxer to win back-to-back gold at the Commonwealth Games.
“It’s an opportunity for me to make history,” he told the NZ Commonwealth Games website.
“I’m looking forward to proving to myself, my family, friends and supporters that I’m one of the best.”
Nyika has just returned to New Zealand from a training camp with the British Lionhearts boxing team, which competes in the World Series Boxing Tournament.
