Clean up operation for Games
CLEANERS and council workers are ramping up their efforts to make the Gold Coast spick and span for the Commonwealth Games.
Lawns are being mowed, graffiti is being removed and abandoned cars are being targeted and hauled away under the tidy-up effort.
Scheduled maintenance has been fast-tracked, including painting on toilets, barbecues, playgrounds, viewing decks, park and Oceanway lighting and irrigation systems.
Mayor Tom Tate urged locals to document any unsightly features and report them for cleaning.
“I urge Gold Coasters to show the pride they have in their streets and suburbs and look for any eyesore that needs addressing, and report it,” he said.
Among the works currently underway are the repainting of park furniture in high profile areas, extra street sweeping and the pressure cleaning and repainting of medians and traffic islands, plus weed control.
Turf renovations are also underway in parks, with council also increasing grass cutting to weekly rotations from fortnightly rotations. More trees are being planted and dune maintenance has been stepped up at Coolangatta, Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise.
