JUNIORS LEARN FROM BEST
Every child looks to a role model who can show them how to train, compete and act. Coast rugby players have found one.
THROUGH the Gold Coast Academy program, young rugby union players have had the opportunity to learn from some of the best.
Robin Crawford recently took a session on the Gold Coast and gave the players an insight into top grade rugby.
Born in South Africa, Robin moved to England where he played competitive rugby.
After arriving in Australia he moved to South Australia where he played and on retiring was head coach for St Peter’s College and Prince Alfred College.
After working with Adelaide University as head coach, Robin now works as the development officer for the Queensland Reds, where his role is to drive participation at the grassroots level.
He joined training on the Gold Coast last week and assisted academy coaches in skill development and strategy building.
He shared his expertise in many areas and encouraged the young players to be the best that they could be.
With only two weeks to go until the program finishes, the players have been involved with basic skill development and team play.
This weekend sees the group involved in a match against Surfers Paradise.
It is a fantastic way to bring players from the Coast together and learn to play as a team.
It also gives them an opportunity to put some skills learnt from sessions into practice.
The team also attended the recent Super Rugby clash in which the Queensland Reds beat the Bulls from South Africa.
The academy is grateful to head coach Jack Moon and his development coaches on imparting their rugby passion to show how important sport is in building life skills.
Jack said: “To be able to hold sessions at RACV Royal Pines Resort is a pleasure and the boys have gained good basic skills and forged friendships with other players from other clubs.”
