FORSTER DOES NOT FEAR UPSTART RIVAL THIS TIME

- TOM BOSWELL

TRAINER Desleigh Forster says Malvern Estate is poised to flip the script on rival Upstart Pride and add black type to the gelding’s record in the Goldmarket at the Gold Coast tomorrow.

The four-year-old had his perfect preparation broken by the Michael Nolantrained Upstart Pride in his last start, falling short of claiming what would have been his most stunning win yet.

Malvern Estate jumped from barrier 10 and despite travelling the long way around Doomben’s track on March 3, he got within 2½ lengths to Upstart Pride, who cruised from gate one.

Forster gave the run a blunt assessment and wasn’t concerned about coming up against Upstart Pride again in what she said was always going to be Malvern Estate’s grand final. “One lobbed on the rail and did no work and one was three deep so naturally the one that does no work is going to win,” Forster said.

“(Malvern Estate) is going good. He has done everything right since his last run.”

The Eagle Farm trainer said adding a Listed win to Malvern Estate’s resumé so early in his career would be a special way to cap off a preparation as she prepares to give the gelding a break.

“It would be nice to win a Listed race with him,” Forster said.
