Stay patient and we’ll keep the cogs turning

- RON NIGHTINGALE, BIGGERA WATERS

THE Games are now only the blink of an eye away and for many the problems it will create with our daily lives seem insurmountable.

Many of our population are taking the opportunity to take holiday time away from the Gold Coast because of the Easter school holidays break, others are pondering how they will just get around to do the normal things in life such as do their shopping.

Those who have the time off may be considering this is the perfect time to enjoy the surf but may not be able to do so because of the traffic that will be generated or the extra boats on the water all looking to do the same thing.

For me and many others we have to face these problems and deal with them as a way to survive. We have to consider it’s not a matter of struggling to get from our home to our work place and return because the roads of the Gold Coast are our work place.

We are all aware that the jobs we have to complete every day will keep the supply of goods flowing to the Games and small businesses whether in Surfers or in the homes because if we fail then some places may come to a standstill.

The major companies with their large vehicles can operate at night and ensure major supply but we who are dedicated to ensuring that people receive what they need during the daylight hours while they are doing the work that they need to do to help their families survive.

Mechanics don’t expect to find the parts they have ordered piled up at their door in the morning, an electrician can’t wait until the next day to repair someone’s electricity outage, the flowers and tokens of love cannot be delivered to a graveside in the dark.

So I ask everyone during this time when you are stuck in traffic or see one of us travelling down your street which normally you never see us, be patient, because we are frustrated too but we have one incentive to keep us going and that is to get the job done for you and every other person who lives in this city as best we can.
