Mum’s plea for answers over death
THE mother of Sam Leschke has called on those involved in the brawl that potentially killed her son to come forward.
Investigations into the suspicious death of Mr Leschke are ongoing as detectives begin to piece together the 21-year-old’s final moments on Friday night.
The body of Sam Leschke was found by his sister on their back patio early on Saturday morning, with what detectives described as “obvious injuries consistent with assault.”
His exact cause of death is still unknown with police expecting to have the in-depth post mortem report back later this week.
It’s understood a number of people have spoken with police about his movements before and after a fight in the park near the Wallaby Hotel on Friday night. Detectives are still looking to speak to more people potentially involved.
Teena Leschke, Sam’s mother, told the Bulletin the family had been in contact with police and said the investigation was looking positive.
“My husband and I and our eldest son have been speaking with detectives and it’s looking positive and there are people being questioned,” Mrs Leschke said.
“It would be awful to have nothing at all, it would make it harder, but to know that we can try and get justice for Sam, that’s all we want, justice for our boy.
“If anyone witnessed anything at all, or knows anything or were involved, just come forward.”
It is understood upward of seven people may have been involved in the brawl, before Mr Leschke returned to his Soma Court home.
Mrs Leschke said her daughter was still coming to terms with finding her brother early on Saturday morning.
“She’s a young girl who has just found her brother dead in the morning, she will need some help.
“She’s not coping very well. We both have big families and Sam had many friends, the support is there for her and us.”
The family is still waiting for Sam’s body to be returned to them so they can make funeral arrangements.
“The wait is the hardest part, once we get the coroner’s report I’m sure we can go ahead with funeral arrangements,” she said.
A memorial was held in the Fijian town where Sam’s parents Teena and Barry were holidaying, on Sunday.
“We’re very grateful to them, they’re like family to us now and we have so much gratitude towards them for helping us to get off the island so fast and back to the mainland to get a flight home, all in the same day.”
