BURLEIGH JUNIOR’S SHOT AT BIG TIME

BURLEIGH young gun Brandon Mayne will be hoping to impress scouts from one of world football’s biggest clubs when he arrives in Italy this week.

The Robina City striker, 12, leaves on Thursday for the Montecatini Cup, less than a year after starring at the Sardinia Cup in Assemini.

His selection for the tournaments followed AC Milan-run camps in Queensland in April and December respectively, with the Marymount Catholic Primary School student now preparing to represent the club as part of an Australian squad at the Montecatini Cup.

“(AC Milan) take the kids who they think have got what they’re looking for,” Brandon’s mother, Kerry Shaw, said.

“They have scouts and everything out this time, which is why this one is probably more important that the one last year. He’s pretty excited.

“He’s a big Cristiano Ronaldo fan. He spends heaps of time watching YouTube.

“It’s only his third year of soccer. He played rugby league from the age of five.”
