HAIRDRESSER TIPS ‘SEXY MULLETS’ IN 80S REVIVAL FOR COAST

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

AN award-nominated Gold Coast hair stylist has tipped mullets to be the next big hair trend.

Eugene Sokolovs, 31, is a finalist for Hairdresser of the Year at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards, and specialises in fun, bold hairstyles.

The Latvian-born stylist moved to the Coast for a sea change five years ago, after spending six years at a salon in England where he said the ‘80s were the latest craze.

“People like the texture, the curls, and mullets,” Mr Sokolovs said. “They think mullets are very sexy, and I think it will come to the Gold Coast soon.”

Mr Sokolovs is the lead stylist for Main Beach salon Ette Studio, which has also been nominated for Best Customer Care in the Australian Hair Industry Awards.

But their new-found fame doesn’t mean they’re toning down their style, with one client so trusting she lets Mr Sokolovs do exactly what he wants with her hair.

“She comes in every week, and each time she wants something different, ash grey, baby pink or mint green,” he said. “She’s always surprised, she gives me an idea and I always select (the colour) for her. She’s very out there.”

The winners will be announced in late April.
