CITY BUZZING AS FINAL TOUCHES TAKE PLACE

- MARK PETERS

GOLD Coasters can’t have helped but notice the increased activity going on around the city the past few weeks.

Our city’s key sporting venues are like beehives at the moment as thousands of worker bees in safety vests and hard hats put the finishing touches to everything from stadium ‘look’ and way finder signage to the public welcome areas, catering outlets, entertainment precincts and everything else that will make GC2018 an experience like no other for all of us.

Away from the venues themselves you’ll have seen the bright yellow Games Lanes which will get the athletes and key officials to their events on time.

The Games Lanes will become progressively active from March 30 while a full list of detours around the necessary road closures and plenty of other information about how our roads will work can be found at getsetforthegames.com

You’ll have also seen signs appearing along the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) route to let you know when it is passing.

The Baton features rolling, short-term road closures so whatever you do, don’t miss your chance to get along and cheer on some much-deserving local heroes.

A list of the QBR community celebrations is on these pages – try to get along to one in your local area and celebrate the last few days and hours of the Baton’s remarkable 388day journey.

Right now though, just two weeks to the day until the GC2018 Opening Ceremony, preparedness, readiness and community buy-in are the keys to success – something we can’t emphasise enough.

Rest assured that for every road closure or diversion or fence that’s put up that wasn’t there a few weeks ago, there is a way – a solution.

Again, check your emails and letterboxes and keep an eye on this newspaper and all local media for the most up-to-theminute information or visit getsetforthegames.com and get ready to Share the Dream – and indeed the reality – of GC2018.
