Prep class a time to cherish

Principals embrace Bulletin pictorial liftout

-

IT’S the beginning of a whole new chapter for the prep classes of 2018 and we are there to help celebrate it.

Starting school is a huge milestone — for children, parents, grandparents and the teachers entrusted with the care of little ones.

To commemorate the special occasion the Gold Coast

Bulletin has published its inaugural My First Year liftout.

The pictorial celebration contains individual class photos of 18 Gold Coast schools, and will become an annual tradition for the Bulletin and a keepsake for all families toasting their loved one’s start at “big school”.

“We are delighted to be able to create this memento for children and their loved ones,”

Gold Coast Bulletin editor Ben English said.

“Everyone remembers their first year at school and this is a really special way to celebrate such a great time in a child’s life.”

Coomera Anglican principal Dr Mark Sly said his school had led the way with prep classes.

“We’ve had prep for 22 years, 10 years before the government introduced it,” he said. “I think it’s a good thing. Our parents get plenty of photos and mementos, but it’s different to see it in the paper.

“Prep is an important year for young children, and our program is a full academic year of learning. It’s an important way to get children involved in their education right from the start.”

Pimpama State School principal Marius Marx said the liftout was a great way for schools to show the community what his school had to offer.

“All students are showcased, and it focuses on the children and the curriculum,” he said.

“It’s good because it’s their first time at school, and so it’s a memento for them to keep.

“It’s a good opportunity to showcase how important students are in our school and to be a part of the community.

“It’s important for the community to see our school’s values and see how good our school is.”

From the smallest schools with only nine preppies, to the biggest with a whopping nine prep classes, Bulletin photographers enjoyed meeting all the young and eager students.
