Jail for drunk car rampage

- LEA EMERY

A MAN who spun out on Broadbeach’s Victoria Ave, smiled at police and then took off before crashing his ute while drunk and high on ecstasy has been jailed for nine months.

He also smashed through the Oasis Shopping Centre car park barrier during the late night rampage on July 14 last year.

Stefan Zelovic, 24, was found to have a blood alcohol reading of 0.188 per cent and admitted to police he had taken ecstasy.

He pleaded guilty in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday to one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, using stolen registration plates, driving while under the influence of liquor and obstruction police.

Magistrate Mark Howden sentenced Zelovic yesterday to a head sentence of nine months jail and disqualified him from driving for two years.

“Your actions were dangerous and put many members of the public at risk,” he said.

When Zelovic was released from the watch-house after the rampage, he told reporters outside court he was an “idiot” who had “drunk too much”.

Zelovic will be released on parole on June 21.
