Winx after world title
TURF idol Winx is poised for a Group 1 world record in the $1 million George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
Winx, who is on a 23-race winning streak, will net her 17th Group 1, breaking the deadlock with American champion John Henry, if she beats her five Ryder rivals as expected.
Trainer Chris Waller’s wonder mare is at prohibitive odds of $1.10 with Ladbrokes to win her third successive George Ryder Stakes.
Kementari goes into the race off three wins this campaign and is rated at $7.50 second favourite. Godolphin trainer James Cummings has realistic expectations.
“We have our feet firmly on the ground when it comes to appreciating how far behind Winx he is when it comes to achievement and world rankings,” Cummings said.
“But nevertheless he is a rising star. This is the race Kementari needs just to be perfect within himself for the Doncaster Mile and we’re happy to saddle him up.”
