MURDOCH STILL IN THE TITLE MIX

-

THE next step in Gold Coast boxer Rohan Murdock’s dream to become WBO super middleweight world champion is still on the cards despite a likely delay.

Immediately after the 26-year-old defeated Frankie Filippone in Corpus Christi in the US early last month, plans were flagged for him to again fight on the undercard of current champ Gilberto Ramirez – this time in the Mexican resort of Mazatlan.

That would come with a view to Murdock fighting Ramirez in a spectacular title bout on the Gold Coast in September.

However, little has been said about the Mexican event that was to take place in May.

Murdock’s manager Mike Altamura said they were still awaiting an update but suggested June was feasible, while promoter Dean Lonergan confirmed there was no concern about the delay.

The win over Filippone took Murdock’s professional record to 22 wins in 23 starts.
