JOS Kivits’ works sold for tens of thousands of dollars, with late NZ millionaire Sir Pat Goodman among his most loyal buyers. “I painted a big painting of a basket of bread and someone told him about it,” Kivits said of a man who turned a family bakery into a global food empire. “It ended up in his head office. I had an exhibition soon after and he flew up in his plane and bought eight paintings before it even opened, inspiring a sellout ... he was the greatest encouragement I ever had.”
