MOTORISTS caught driving in specially designated “Games lanes” will face heavy fines as the Commonwealth Games traffic response ramps up.

Drivers caught in the lanes, restricted to official Games vehicles, as well as buses travelling to and from venues, face fines of $252, comparable to being caught speeding by more than 13km/h.

From today, the eastbound lanes of Broadbeach-Nerang Rd will start to close down in the vicinity of Carrara’s Metricon Stadium, home to the opening ceremony and athletics competition.
