LOOK ON THE SUNNY SIDE

- ALLORA, DARLING DOWNS

IF you’ve been meaning to see those gorgeous sunflowers, the next two weeks might be your last chance.

Blooming from as early as October to the last weeks of March, the sunflower trail takes you through this week’s top spot to visit: the tiny, quaint town of Allora.

While most people know Warwick as the place to visit when the flowers bloom, the area around Allora can give Warwick a run for its money at the right time of the year.

If you’re thinking of oceans with big yellow sunflower heads, you’re most likely to find what you’re looking for right here. But I’ll be honest; getting out to this area will be a whole-day adventure. So grab snacks, water and your camera.

The windy, semi-outback roads will take you on a pleasant journey about two hours out from the Gold Coast.

Your journey really begins in the Hinterland as the road twists and winds its way through dreamy hills, before finally planing towards country town Beaudesert. Continuing on will take you past Wyaralong Dam and through the adorable town of Boonah.

Keep an eye out for the amazing and varied types of trees before sunflower spotting becomes your main priority.

After scoping out Allora, some other sunflower-scenic places to hit up include Cambooya, Felton, Nobby and Clifton, north along the New England Highway.

Of course, your visit wouldn’t be complete without seeing what Warwick’s got to offer.

If you’re around at dusk, get ready for some amazing pictures of sunflower fields among soft pink and purple skies.

Yep, it’s definitely time for a road trip.
