Scott still hot Seahawks to Confidence in Poms order in new season rip in to rivals Roos’ contest rolled for 58

-

SCOTT McLaughlin yesterday proved why he’s still a master of the hot lap, snaring his first pole position of the Supercars season at the Melbourne 400.

But his legendary rival Jamie Whincup immediately put the pressure back on the young gun, winning the other pole on offer at the Australian Grand Prix, where drivers are racing for points for the first time in the meet’s history.

McLaughlin set the record with 16 Supercars pole positions last year. NORTH Gold Coast’s SBL title push will start away to USC Rip City on April 29.

The Seahawks’ men’s side, now competing in the state league QBL, are joined in the competition by neighbours Gold Coast, who host heavyweights Brisbane at The Southport School on the same day.

The two sides face off in Round 10 on June 30 at the Runaway Bay Super Sports Centre.

The QBL season tips off on the weekend of April 27. COACH Bert van Marwijk has lavished praise on the Socceroos before his first game in charge against Norway tomorrow.

The Dutchman, who has taken charge of just four training sessions, revealed that Mile Jedinak would continue as Australia’s captain.

Van Marwijk looks set to adopt a 4-2-3-1 formation underpinned by slick passing, akin to the philosophy of his predecessor Ange Postecoglou – albeit with some nuances. The coach declared his delight with his players. ENGLAND have been embarrassed on the opening day of their first Test against New Zealand, rolled for a scarcely believable 58.

Fresh off their Ashes series loss, the tourists slumped to 9-27 in Auckland as Trent Boult (6-32) and Tim Southee (4-25) ran amok.

Only a late cameo from Craig Overton (33 not out) pushed England up to their final total.

In reply, the Kiwis has reached 3-175 with Kane Williamson nearing a century for the hosts.
