Kokkinakis beats Federer

THANASI Kokkinakis last year admitted he had been prevented for so long from stringing tournaments together by injuries that he had no clear idea of what his tennis level was.

Yesterday, the 21-year-old Australian enjoyed a clear look at his untapped potential with a third-set tiebreak win over Roger Federer at the Miami Open which deposed the Swiss star from world No.1.

Qualifier Kokkinakis won 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in the second round of the US tournament.
