SWEETER BY THE SIX-PACK
Don’t be caught on the hop! This delicious chocolate stout is a limited release so you’ll need to be quick
“THE DELICIOUS CHOCOLATE AROMA IS APPARENT FROM THE MINUTE YOU POP THE CAP.”
EASTER is almost upon us and usually it’s a time for chocolate.
It also means a long weekend with time to relax and that’s usually over a refreshing brew.
So why not combine the two? If you think I have lost my senses putting chocolate and beer in the same sentence, wait until you try the combination in one mouthful with White Rabbit’s Chocolate Stout.
The Victorian brewer is following up on the success of last year with another limited release batch of this unique stout.
It is a smooth, full-flavoured brew, easy to drink and very more-ish, appealing to those who have a bit of a sweet tooth. Living up to its name, the delicious chocolate aroma is apparent from the minute you pop the cap.
Pouring it into a decent balloon or tulip-shaped glass to fully appreciate the nose, you can’t help but admire the jet black colour and coffeehued head.
There’s no disappointment in the flavour either – it’s definitely chocolate/malt, not too rich but very smooth.
This stout is a touch on the sweet side but not sickly and there’s a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste to draw you back.
Fans of heavier stouts like Guinness may find it a bit “thin”, but at 5.6 per cent, there’s nothing wanting in the strength of this black beauty.
With the weather starting to cool, it’s a great drop to give you a little inner glow.
It would be a good dessert beverage — a natural match for mud cake or something similar, even the odd Easter egg.
If you haven’t tried a chocolate stout before, this isn’t a bad introduction.
