Seagulls are still looking up

-

DESPITE going down convincingly in the much anticipated “Battle on the Border” clash with cross-town rivals Burleigh, Tweed Seagulls captain Cheyne Whitelaw says it certainly isn’t all doom and gloom down at Piggabeen.

The bottom-placed Seagulls were outplayed by Burleigh Bears 32-12, leaving the two sides on opposite poles of the ladder after three rounds of the Intrust Super Cup season.

Whitelaw remains buoyed ahead of his side’s clash with PNG Hunters this Sunday.

“Burleigh were just too good for us in the end. We stuck with them through 39 minutes, but that lapse of one or two minutes at the end really cost us,” said Whitelaw.

“We take a lot of positives out of our second half though. But at the end of the day we’re fighting for those two points. We will certainly go back and draw out the positives, but we will be working on a few things for sure.

“We’ve got the Hunters next week who are the reigning premiers so it’s another huge match for us.”

Whitelaw’s first appearance for the season was another plus for the Seagulls.
