Yego won gold in the javelin at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, snaring Kenya’s first athletics gold in a non-track event. Yego earnt the nickname “Mr YouTube” after watching videos to hone his throwing technique, using film of champions such as threetime Olympic champion Jan Zelezny to learn his craft.

After finishing just outside the medals at the 2013 world championships, Yego beat the defending Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott in Glasgow to win a famous gold.
