Hero cop ‘pulls pin’ on relay
A HERO Gold Coast cop – stood down pending an probe into workplace bullying claims – is believed to have withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton relay.
Sergeant Gary Hamrey, who received a bravery medal last year, was nominated to run a Gold Coast baton leg this week but it seems he has withdrawn after the investigation was launched.
Sgt Hamrey, decorated after being shot in the face while chasing an armed robber who had held hostages, has been stood down from official duty.
He will have a non-operational role while inquiries are made into unsubstantiated allegations of failing to treat colleagues with respect, dignity and in a reasonable and fair manner.
GOLDOC chairman Peter Beattie said the police internal disciplinary matter was completely separate from the baton nominations process.
