Farewell to ex-senator
HOWARD Government minister Jocelyn Newman has died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mrs Newman, 80, served in the Senate for 15 years from 1986 to 2002 and served as Social Security Minister and Family and Community Services Minister from 1996 to 2001.
Her son, former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman, and daughter, Assistant Tax Commissioner Kate Roff, confirmed their mother had died peacefully yesterday morning at Berry, on the south coast of New South Wales.
