Sharks building legacy on passion

-

SOUTHPORT co-captain Andrew Boston says the club’s history has formed the inspiration for the legacy they want to leave as they try to lift the club to success once again.

The Sharks, with 15 debutants, opened the NEAFL season by thrashing Canberra by 62 points on Friday.

The bulk of the list are new to the club this season and Boston, who has had connections to the Sharks since he was a junior, has ensured those around him become as passionate for Southport as he is.

“Me and (co-captain) Seb Tape have been speaking about the legacy of the footy club and how we want to get it back to where it used to be,” he said.

“We are part of one of the biggest clubs in Australia and know how successful it was in the past.

“The last few years we have been through a bit of a slump but we want to do the right things and we have the right structures in place to start building.”

■ THE Gold Coast Suns NEAFL side beat Brisbane 12.6 (78) to 6.17 (53) on Saturday.
