’You’ll miss party of the century’
GOLD Coasters quitting the city for the event are going to miss “the party of the century”, Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones says.
A locals exodus is underway, with many choosing to take holidays during the Games.
But Games Minister Kate Jones said those going away will miss a great fortnight.
“They are going to miss the party of the century if they are not here on the Gold Coast.”
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate added: “I would say travel safe but you are missing out on one of the best Games that will ever be held.
“I know there are some commercial issues – people are taking the high rent for their house and incoming guests, that’s their choice.”
Games organising committee chairman Peter Beattie said not only would those departing miss a great party, “you will miss history”.
“It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you will look back and regret not being there.”
