LUCKY COPS ESCAPE BLAZING VEHICLE
FOUR officers in an unmarked police car made a lucky escape in Sydney on Sunday night when their car suddenly burst into flames.
A spokesman for NSW Police said the Kia Sorento, attached to a specialist unit, was travelling on urgent duty southbound on the M7 at Rooty Hill in the city’s west when it suffered engine failure.
Noticing that something wasn’t right, the officers pulled over on the M7 before the car dramatically burst into flames.
The officers escaped uninjured before the car was completely engulfed.
NSW Fire and Rescue crews approached the vehicle from behind to form a shield to douse the flames, fearing ammunition that was inside the vehicle was exploding.
The fire soon spread briefly to nearby grass as traffic was stopped completely on the southbound lanes.
The M7 was closed for about two hours while the operation took place.
The car has been towed from the scene and will be examined to determine the cause of the fire.
