THE LONG BLUE LINE

- CHRIS MCMAHON

MASSIVE police convoys have been seen cruising the city in the days leading to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Thousands of cops have descended on the Coast from all around the state, ready for anything the city’s biggest event could bring.

Motorcycle police have been seen travelling in fleets of two to seven at a time, while even police dirt bikes from out west have been seen in parts of the Glitter Strip.

Over the weekend largescale practice Royal escort runs were completed from Parkwood to Ashmore.

Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said although there was no specific threat, the large police response was prepared for any eventuality.

“We have to be prepared for the unexpected and to that end we have prepared for every type of possibility,” he said.
