Human ‘rainbow’ for diversity

-

HUNDREDS of Gold Coast students, locals and tourists will celebrate diversity at Kurrawa beach this morning.

The 200-plus, as well as Tourism Minister Kate Jones, will form a human “rainbow” on the sand about 7am.

Study Gold Coast CEO Shannon Willoughby said the human “rainbow” was driven by students who wanted to celebrate the Coast’s multicultural community and attract more international students to the city.

She said a welcoming and diverse student community was a key driver for potential students.

“We want to spread the word globally that we welcome all students to the Gold Coast while the spotlight is on our city,” she said.

The Gold Coast is expected to welcome more than 670,000 visitors during the Commonwealth Games, along with an expected television audience of 1.5 billion.

“It’s such a beautiful and vibrant visual metaphor for unity through embracing diversity in our community,” she said. “It embodies the spirit of the city and the Games.

“I can’t think of a better day to hold the event than on the first morning of the Games, when tens of thousands of visitors are joining us.”
