BY GEORGE, IT’S THE NEXT MESSI

-

FOOTBALL coaches believe a Brisbane eightyear-old could be the next Lionel Messi after he was chosen to attend an overseas tournament for one of the world’s biggest clubs.

George Pearce this week travelled to Barcelona for a tournament featuring 1700 kids from around the globe.

The selected kids train with FCBEscola, which is European giant FC Barcelona’s academy for talented kids, with branches around the globe. The U/9s Southside Eagles player was also last year hand-picked as the only player from the Brisbane academy to attend a camp in Barcelona.

Southside Eagles director of coaching Dale Zimmerlie compared the eight-year-old to FC Barcelona star and George’s idol, Lionel Messi.

“He’s similar to a Messi or (Argentinian Diego) Maradona in that his left foot is dominant, very quick, very well balanced and he has great vision,” he said.
