Alistair Brownlee says England is up for the fight and he welcomes what he sees as a resurgent Ashes challenge.

Brownlee, who was yesterday announced as the flagbearer of England’s 395 athletes at the Gold Coast, has raced three sprint triathlons since hip surgery last year.

Gold Coast-based Matt Hauser is rated by Brownlee as a rising presence in the event.

“I was in an era where for the Aussies triathlon was a big deal and it’s tailed off for a lot of the past 10 years – there weren’t that many competitiv­e Aussies in triathlon,’’ Brownlee said.
