Driver Davey marvels at opening and Shark

- SALLY COATES

WHEN I jumped in Graham Davey’s Uber, plenty of Commonwealth Games action was happening.

The events had started, with the women’s triathlon seemingly over before it started, Sally Pearson had pulled out of the Games, and buzz and reaction from the opening ceremony were still filtering through thick and fast.

Graham had not discussed the ceremony with any of his passengers when I got in, but he was a fan — of both the visuals and message.

“I think they had the visuals down pat, it looked absolutely superb on the TV screen. It was awesome how they managed to have the sea moving in and the breaking waves.

“I quite enjoyed the Aboriginal theme. Queensland is quite inclusive and there’s a long way to go there.”

While the roads were still noticeably empty yesterday morning, Graham said Broadbeach was busy the night before as Amy Shark braved the rain to officially open the Queensland Music Stage for Festival 2018.

“She played her heart out in the pouring rain while we stood there watching,” he said.
