PM dismisses Jones criticism
PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull has rejected criticism of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, saying he thought it was “brilliant”.
Radio host Alan Jones was among those to criticise the ceremony online, labelling it “a disgrace”.
“This was an opportunity to celebrate Australia, to celebrate Queensland,” he said. “No one could understand let alone enjoy what all that indigenous symbolism was about.”
Mr Turnbull said he disagreed with the criticism.
“If you want to stay sane, don’t read all the negative stuff,” he said. “Social media is dominated by negativity ... Stay happy, don’t read it.”
Mr Turnbull said people were too quick to find fault.
“We have to recognise that we have got so much going for us – confidence, optimism, positivity,” he said. “Glass half full, not half empty, that’s the right approach.”
