Flood fix ahead of schedule
ONE year on from record flooding, Tweed Shire Council has announced all road, bridge and stormwater repairs will be finished by the end of 2018.
This announcement comes after two of five minor road works packages were completed, with the final major contracts expected to be signed at the end of this month.
Manager Infrastructure Delivery Tim Mackney said the council was well on the way to meeting its requirements.
“If we meet this timeline, that’s 21 months post-flood, well short of the 27-month funding window open for Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangement applications,” Mr Mackney said.
Currently, with damaged plants, sportsfields and waterways almost fully repaired, more than 1200 repairs of a total 1550 have been completed.
Tropical Cyclone Debbie left a damage bill of $49 million.
