Maids back on streets
THE under-fire Gold Coast Meter Maids are back strutting their stuff on Surfers Paradise streets despite a running row with officialdom.
The Bulletin saw a pair in the trademark golden bikinis on Saturday in Cavill Mall.
Last week, brand owner Roberta Aitchison gave her girls the day off.
She claimed “intimidating” threats from city council wardens to fine them $650 for selling merchandise in public areas and breaching bylaws by touting the new Meter Maids bar.
The council denied the allegation of intimidation or that it was aimed at removing them during the Commonwealth Games, but admitted Meter Maids had been given a warning.
