No bail for car chase

- LEA EMERY

A MAN allegedly involved in a police chase from northern New South Wales to Queensland has been denied bail.

But his co-accused who was travelling in the same vehicle was granted bail.

Magistrate Donald MacKenzie made the decision to keep Dane Couttas, 31, behind bars while unlawful use of motor vehicle and possession of a taser is dealt with due to Couttas’ lengthy criminal history.

Couttas also told police he had tasered himself.

His friend Matthew Herbert, 22, was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and was granted bail.

Both men appeared in Southport Magistrates Court Saturday, after the Friday afternoon chase spanned from Murwillumbah to Springbrook.

Police are still searching for two other men, including the person driving the car.
