SAGE CAFE RESTAURANT
5/20 Queensland Ave, Broadbeach If you’re visiting the Gold Coast for the Games, we’re sorry about the rain … but I know where you can find an umbrella.
Book a table at Hideaway Kitchen & Bar to sample snappy street food under a rainbow “ceiling” of suspended umbrellas.
They’re one of many local restaurants to extend their hours in honour of the celebrations and you can catch them every day from midday to midnight until April 15.
For more playful modern Asian, visit Harajuku Gyoza in the Oasis Shopping Centre.
Along with a central location, they offer endearingly enthusiastic service, an in-house brewery and cheeseburger gyoza.
One of the Gold Coast’s best-known restaurateurs, Daniel Ridgeway, boasts a slick new semi-alfresco space in the heart of the atmosphere on Surf Pde.
Made for long lunches, afternoon cocktails or dinner, Rivea serves house-made pastas, pizza and seafood, including the signature gnocchi dripping in truffle cream sauce.
Size may matter when it comes to that first double shot of the day, but a hole-inthe-wall space on Victoria Ave is no handicap for Broadbeach’s boutique baristas.
HAND Coffee, an acronym for Have a Nice Day, is a debut venture for long-time mates Luke Dempsey-Ceh and Mitch Kavic, and their brews pack a punch.
Open from 5.30am to 3pm Savoury dumplings aren’t the only kind on the menu at Harajuku in the Oasis – save room for Nutella or salted caramel gyoza during the Games, it’s the sole local provider of Industry Beans Coffee, serving a smooth brew from Fitzroy in Instagrammable cups.
“Our coffee is certainly a point of difference – it’s a brilliant blend and we have only had positive feedback from customers,” Luke says.
“We used a local graphic designer, Ryan Bowles, to create a unique cup design for us and he blew us away.”
While it featured on our most recent Best of the Gold Coast list for its coffee, HAND also serves jaffles, banana bread, brownies from BAIX Brownies and protein balls from The Raw Baller.
